A Resource Guide to Health Care Coverage

One of the pillars of The Asclepius Initiative’s mission is to eliminate health care disparities in populations affected by inequitable social, economic, and environmental circumstances. The goal of these materials is to provide a better understanding of the available health care coverage options and take the mystery out of the often confusing insurance process.

Perhaps you started a new job with health benefits, it’s time to renew your coverage during an open enrollment period, or maybe you are self-employed and looking on the Marketplace for coverage for yourself and your family.

The Asclepius Initiative

Medicare is a government program that helps older people and some younger folks with disabilities get health care. There are two main ways to get Medicare coverage: Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

The Asclepius Initiative regularly conducts surveys to capture the views of Kentucky adults on health care coverage and affordability, as well as their attitudes and beliefs about the U.S. health care system.

These materials were supported by funds made available by the Kentucky Department for Public Health’s Office of Population Health from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for STLT Public Health Infrastructure and Workforce, under RFA-OT21-2103.
