The Asclepius Initiative’s July 2026 newsletter focuses on health care coverage education, health care affordability, and the need for clearer information in a system that is often difficult to navigate.
This month, TAI highlights the completion of its health care coverage literacy project, which ran from January 1, 2025 through May 31, 2026 with a grant from the Kentucky Department for Public Health. The project was designed to increase knowledge about health care coverage in underserved populations, particularly Black, Spanish-speaking, and rural communities.
Over the course of the grant, TAI worked with 13 embedded community partners to bring clear, practical education into trusted community spaces. Partners held or participated in 128 events, helping the information reach more than 17,000 people directly. TAI also expanded its free online resources, produced nearly two dozen new and revised animated videos and webinars, and redesigned its website to help people find information more easily.
The July issue also looks at health care affordability for working-age adults. A recent Urban Institute report found that nearly half of working-age adults said their families had trouble affording health care in 2025. The findings show that having coverage does not always mean care is affordable to use. High premiums, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, denied claims, uncovered services, and limited provider networks can still leave families facing costs they cannot manage.
TAI also continues its partnership with One Nation, Overcharged, a national campaign calling attention to high health care costs and the need for a system that puts people’s health ahead of corporate profits. This month’s featured resource focuses on coverage loss and transitions, including how life events such as job loss, turning 26, divorce, income shifts, or moving can affect health care coverage.
